American independent rock legends Mission Of Burma arrive for an all too rare Berlin appearance at the Festsaal Kreuzberg on their two week tour of Europe.
Although the first part of their career only lasted four years, between 1979-83, the influence of the two studio albums they delivered then is still felt to this day. In true, or perhaps unfortunate, rock ‘n roll style they decided to break up in 1983 as hearing problems developed by guitarist/singer Roger Miller simply prevented him from playing further shows at the ear-shreddingly loud volume they had become famous for.

In 2002 they reformed and played live again with exactly the same ferocity as twenty years previously. Four albums have followed, each one raising the question “how can they still sound this good at their age?” Latest LP Unsound has been raking in rave reviews all over and rightly so, it pisses from on high on todays so-called kings of indie and post-punk or whatever rubbish Pitchfork is telling you is the band of the moment. Third track Sectionals In Mourning is better than anything off their first two LPs and as for the rest, well I’ve added it below so you can listen with jaw-on-the-floor admiration, it’s one of the records of recent times.
Here’s the new album Unsound in full and a documentary on the band called Not A Photograph:
Support tonight are Berlin’s very own garage-psychpop geniuses Delta Love who’ll preview even more new songs currently in production for their debut album. Here’s a couple of oldies of theirs from this year’s Post Tempus EP:
